Brahmital Trek is a hidden gem in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Though this trek is beautiful but less known to tourists. Only few people visit this trek. Jaspur Band is the starting point of this beautiful high altitude glacial lake trek. The trail goes through mesmerizing campsites including Panchmilia, hangthweda ,Sathgadara and Aaru top.
One can visit this trek in the months of Aug-Sept. Only highly experienced trekkers do this trek in winters, otherwise it is ofcourse not a winter trek for begineers and normal trekkers.During winters, the trail is fully covered with snow, therefore making it inaccessible to Brahmital.
The trek goes something like this :
Uttarkashi - Jaspur Band - Purali Village - Panchmilia- Hangthweda- Aaru dhar/top- Brahmital
One has to start from Jaspur band to reach purali village via motorable road. Purali village is the starting point of Brahmital trek. Make sure to fill the water bottle because there is no water facility between Purali & Panchmilia.
The trail goes through beautiful pine and deodar forests. There is a man-made, resting point which falls at a distance of 1.5km from Purali village. Panchmilia serves as a first campsite to Brahmital Trek.
One has to walk through the barren land to reach Hangthweda. It offers mesmerizing view of the valley and 360° view of snowcapped mountains. This campsite is best for those who are in search of peace.
The trail to aaru dhaar is rocky and steep, one has to take extra precautions. There is always a fear of rolling stones. While walking through aadu dhaar , the vegetation, you'll see is primarily grass. One has to walk through the narrow trail with major safety, you'll see the stream flowing alongside the trail. The aaru dhaar finally opens up into the Aaru Top. Being on the top, Aaru Top offers the majestic view of beautiful mountain ranges. Aaru top is just 700m above aaru dhaar.
In order to reach Brahmital, one has to walk 2.7km approx from aaru top. There are several glacial water streams along the trail. Brahmital is a holy place, residents of the village used to worship this lake. The lake is a symbol of divinity.
Brahmhakamal (state flower of uttarakhand) is common here. According to locals, consumption of alcohol is strictly not allowed here as it may results in natural calamities.
