Dharali is a small beautiful village nestled on the bank of Bhagirathi river. This beautiful village lies at an altitude of 2,680m above sea level. It falls 2.5kms right after Harsil valley and 25km just before Gangotri Dham. The national highway to Gangotri make its way through this beautiful village. Bhagirathi river flows sideways to this beautiful village offering most epic and scenic views to visitors. Entire village is surrounded by breathtaking snowcapped mountains and apple orchards. This place is an excellent destination for those who are in search of peace. The environment here offers fresh air & water with 0% of pollution.

How to reach Dharali Village?

 From dehradun to Dharali village :-

 Dehradun-Uttarkashi-Harsil-Dharali


By road(dehradun-uttarkashi) :- you can either opt for a bus or a taxi. In my opinion, travelling by bus is cheap and departure time is also fixed. If you're looking for a taxi then you'll have to wait until the taxi has maximum number of passengers. Travelling by taxi is expensive too. The journey from dehradun to uttarkashi by bus /taxi takes almost 5-6 hrs. 


Uttarkashi-Harsil :- there's no bus service from uttarkashi to harsil. One has to look for a taxi at nearest taxi stand in uttarkashi. The journey from uttarkashi to harsil is of 3 hrs. 


Harsil-Dharali :- the distance between harsil and Dharali is just 2.5km which almost takes 10-15 minutes. The same taxi from uttarkashi to harsil will take you to Dharali village. 


Dharali is famous for? 

Dharali is mainly famous for its glittering apples and rajma. Besides these, it is also famous for various activities including trekking, homestays, kalpkedar mandir, mandakini waterfall, sattal, Mt. Shrikanth & many more. 


Dharali Apples :- Dharali apples are the best of all apples. These are great in taste & shine. Due to great environmental conditions these apples are highly rich in taste, freshness,Juiciness.

 Dharali apples have a long shelf life without any artificial preservatives. Different varieties of apple are grown here. Royal & Red delicious are dominant varities. Other varities include granny smith,gala, hapke, pinklady, golden, redlove are produced in smaller quantities. The apples are harvested in mid September & October. 


Rajma :- Dharali rajma is famous for its unique taste. The demand for dharali rajma is too high in the market. Though there are many varities of rajma but the cream/white colour rajma is most dominant here. The rajma is harvested in the months of September. It is also sold on Amazon at a rate of rs.300/kg.

Kalpkedar Mandir :- Kalpkedar mandir is Lord shiva temple. Only the dome of the temple is visible and the rest body of temple is submerged in water. This temple is believed to be built by pandava during Mahabharata era. The submerged region of the temple has Shivling below it which is not visible as there is plenty of water. Bhagirathi river flows sideways to the temple.

Mukhba village :- mukhba is just 1km away from Dharali village. Mukhba village is the winter abode of Goddess Ganga. During winters Goddess Ganga is brought down here from the shrine of Gangotri. Devotees can visit Goddess Ganga here in winters.

Places to stay :-

Dharali has a number of options for stays. You can either opt for hotel rooms or homestays. If you're a budget traveller/trekker and looking for rooms at cheap rate then you should opt for hotel rooms. The price ranges from 700-1500 depending upon the facilities provided. 

If you're looking for neat & clean rooms then there are some high budget homestays for which the price ranges between 2000-5600 or even more. 


Best time to visit 

Let us first clear some points. 

If you want to experience the snow, Nov-Jan is the best time. 

If you want to merge this village with your Gangotri dham yatra , April-Aug is the best time. 

If you want to taste the glittering apples, Sept-oct is the best time. 


Summer season(april-june) 

The mornings are bright & sunny. But during night-time, the temperature goes down. 


Monsoon Season(july-september) 

There is sudden changes in the temperature during this time period. Landslides and rainfall occurs frequently. One should look for weather forecast before making any plan to dharali village. 


Winter Season(Oct-March) 

This is the best time to visit, you can experience the taste of delicious apples & snowfall too.The temperature may go to as low as zero or even in minus. The road during winters are highly at risk due to snow.
